Genesis 13:8-9 – Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me

Praise the Lord

So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers. Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.”

As Abram faced the problem of expanding the land for sheep herding, he once again displays a trust in God that is amazing. God’s favor has already been promised to Abram, so he lets Lot choose. But if Lot had been willing to humble himself and let Abram choose, he may have been under Abram’s blessing. Instead, Lot chose the land of Sodom with disastrous results. When faced with life choices, are we willing to humble ourselves before God, or do we simply go with the option that is the most pleasing to the eye?
